Cooma mountain biking champion Andrew Blair is about to take off on the trip of a lifetime next week and he has not even packed yet.
The 29-year-old has been selected to compete in the Australian team of the World Mountain Bike Marathon Championships in Italy next week.
Although Blair is leaving for Italy at the end of the week unpacked he is certainly not unprepared.
Blair trains everyday of the week and completes anywhere from 60 to 200 kilometres a day. He recently cycled from Khancoban to Dead Horse Gap.
"That was comparable to the types of mountains I'll be riding over there, but I'll be doing it day after day" Blair said.
"I think that's the hilliest ride in the country."
Blair has competed for more than 10 years and entered this event as a junior, but will be compete for the first time as a senior and race against some of the best in the business.
"I'll be racing against the current cross country World Champion who won on Saturday," he said.
Blair will join a team of seven cyclists for the event, after a good performance in the Canberra off road cycle club season, and meeting the Cycling Federations criteria for selection.
In his relatively short cycling carer, Blair has broken his collarbone three times. Now he is looking to make the most of his seven-week stint in Europe.
"I'm also going to compete in the Swiss power cup cross country race, it's part of the Swiss National cross country series," he said.
"And I'll be doing the Trans Alp, an eight-day stage race across Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy."
But the ultimate race, planned for the end of the trip, is the six-day Mountain Bike Tour de France.
"To take part in that race has been a childhood dream of mine," he said.
