Nimmitabel advances

28/08/2008 11:20:00 AM
NIMMITABEL'S version of 'meet the candidates' held last Thursday, attracted a record turn out organisers have said.

Nimmitabel Advancement Group (NAG) president David Wicks said about 40 people attended the event, which was a first of its kind for the village.

Seven current councillors and prospective councillors tested their platforms on eager Nimmitabel ears, when they spoke before the Annual General Meeting (AGM) last week.

Mr Wicks said there were about 40 people crammed into the Community Centre, including the mayor Roger Norton, deputy mayor Katrin Hackney and candidates Martin Hughes, Michael Apps, Jenny Lawlis, Stephanie McDonald and Kerry Borger-Warr.

Mr Wicks said there were a number of apologies, but the meeting gave those who were there an opportunity to deliver their platforms for the shire and explain how they relate to Nimmitabel.

"It was very well received by all people in attendance, especially their (the candidates) willingness to listen to the community if they're elected," Mr Wicks said.

A number of people stayed on for the AGM, which saw Mr Wicks re-elected as president of NAG for his second term, John Alcock as vice president, Gazelle Wicks secretary, treasurers Lorraine Courtis and Dulcie McDonald and publicity officer Richard Lawson.

Members of the Nimmitabel Lions Club, Country Women's Association, Fire Brigade and Show Society also attended. After the meeting attendees enjoyed a light, informal supper provided by the Nimmitabel Bakery.
