WEDNESDAY marked a fun filled sporting afternoon for year seven to 10 students from Saint Patrick's Parish and Monaro High School when they got together for a Rugby and Netball Gala Day.

Following the success of Wednesday's carnival, which aimed to promote participation of the sports within the community, is set to become an annual event.

Monaro High School hosted the event and members from the local Rugby League and Netball associations were on hand to assist with referring the games.

The aim of the day was participation, fun and physical activity and Michelle Pollard from Monaro High School said the students achieved this on all levels.

For the Netballers Saint Pats defeated the year seven girls 11 goals to five, while Monaro dominated all other grades taking out the year eight match 18-6, year nine 29-18 and the year 10 game 23-8 under the watchful eye of umpires Karen Peters and Narelle Hagger.

The inaugural Flanagan-White trophy was awarded for Rugby League with the winner determined by for and against points.

Mark Williams had the job of refereeing a tough game between the year seven and eight boys with Saint Pat's defeating Monaro 26-16.

In the next round it was Monaro who were fired up taking out the nine and 10 match refereed by Ross Williams 36-10.

Monaro were the winners of the trophy donated by the Cooma Rovers Rugby League Trust Fund.
