The first week of July saw strong westerly winds which caused extensive damage to properties across the Blue Mountains last Tuesday and Wednesday.
The State Emergency Service (SES) received 31 calls for assistance from Blackheath down to Blaxland over a 36 hour period of mainly trees falling and roof damage from the strong winds.
“We sent 20 SES volunteers to assist residents last week,” stated John Hughes, deputy controller for the SES. “We also utilised the assistance of the NSW Fire Brigade and Blue Mountains City Council for trees on roads.”
The SES is the combat agency for storms in NSW and last week a number of SES volunteers were activated right along the east coast during the storm.
“July is often the start of the wind season on the Central Tablelands and residents must ensure they keep their properties clear and safe from trees around the house,” Mr Hughes stated.
If residents require assistance during a storm, contact the SES on 132500 at anytime.
