WINTER has finally fallen on the Snowy Mountains after a cold front moved across the region early this week, bringing with it the first heavy snow for the season.
Although Cooma was not as lucky, receiving light rainfall and icy winds, the ski resorts recorded more than 30cm of snow when the front came through on Monday evening and continued on Tuesday.
Perisher Blue's media supervisor Christie Dowling said the snowfalls have significantly improved conditions and hoped for more snow soon.
"Yesterday (Monday) we woke up to clear blue skies, but it started to cloud over and snow quite heavily in the afternoon, continued through the night and there's been more today (Tuesday), and seen some very strong winds," Miss Dowling said.
"It was definitely a low snow start to the season, but these falls have made a huge difference, with more lifts and terrain opening tomorrow (Wednesday).
"The snow-making has also played a huge part in getting the resort up and running, with an improved system installed over summer being put to good use," Miss Dowling said.
