Billy cart fun at Michelago

28/08/2008 11:34:00 AM
Michelago Primary School recently held a Billy Cart Race day, as part of their Connected Outcome Group study on machines. Parents, teachers, students and many locals gathered at the Michelago Community Oval to watch students put their machines to the test on the hilly track.

Senior Constable Naomi Nemec officiated over the day's events, and made sure all the students equipment was in order and that they had all of the appropriate safety gear. At the end of the day Snr Con. Nemec commented that it was one of the most wonderful events she had the pleasure of being a part of - to see the kids and their parents having so much fun together.

A billy cart construction day was held at the school two weeks prior to the race. Many dads took the day off work, loaded up their tools and set up mini-workshops on the school grounds, determined that they weren't going to miss such a great opportunity to share in their children's education. The only criterion was that the billy carts had to be constructed out of recycled material. This was reflected in the end result, which saw carts of many different shapes and sizes and styles.
