RISING sports stars were acknowledged at a South East Regional Academy of Sport (SERAS) reception at council chambers last week.
The SERAS reception was held on Thursday to thank Cooma-Monaro Shire Council for their support, and recognise the achievements of young sports people, who have been sponsored by SERAS this year.
SERAS executive director Garry Lane said the reception was an opportunity for the mayor and councillors to meet the local scholarship holders and get a brief update about where the academy is headed in the future.
"Our current scholarship holders for the Cooma-Monaro region, of which there are seven, have all done well," Mr Lane said.
"They were invited to come to the reception along with family members and friends to receive their certificates," he said.
The reception was also held to thank the council for their years of support and to give an overview of what SERAS is doing right now, Mr Lane said.
"Overall, everything is all going well. We recently moved to our new office at the University of Canberra, and next year we'll have a fully integrated and higher level of service delivery," Mr Lane said.
Cooma's scholarship holders are Naomi Burgess and Hayley Davis, who both hold an Athletics Country Energy Scholarships, Xin He, who is in the Lawn Bowls Program, Teneille England, Samantha Scott and Debbie Wharton, who are in the Netball Program, and Callum Watson, who is in the cross country skiing Snowsports Program.
